It took a while, but the Ukulele Lady is now singing her song – not that my talents do her justice.

Once the strings were back on, the ukulele was immediately playable but there was one small problem to overcome. The eighth fret had a bump in it. To be precise, the third string buzzed when played, and wouldn’t change tone when the fretting finger was moved up a semi-tone, from the 7th to the 8th fret. Disconcerting to say the least.

In order to fix this, the offending fret was removed from the fretboard, straightened in a vise, the slot was re-routed, the fret was re-inserted using glue and a clamp, and finally the uke was completely playable. Whew !
